Meet John Silvestre
Trust plays a big role in your success when you operate a small business in a small town. It's easier to build trust, and it's also easier to break it. That's why building trust is a central part of what John Silvestre tries to do in his business. "Our customers trust that we are providing them with the right knowledge and that we are giving them the right tools and products," says John. Being able to do this consistently leads to satisfied customers, and as a business owner, to a gratifying and fulfilling career.
John has always had an independent spirit and an entrepreneurial mindset. He also happened to have an interest in and talent for computers. "I always wanted to run my own computer and office supplies shop," John says. So when the opportunity arose and the right pieces fell together, he knew it was destiny. He bought Beitz Computers and Office Supplies in 2001 and is proud of the way the business has grown since then. He attributes this to his fabulous, competent staff and his wonderful customers who have been so loyal throughout the years.
Having lived in Kitimat and having been in business for so many years, John has had a front-row seat to the many changes that have happened in Kitimat. He has seen boom and bust, population growth and decline, but notes that Kitimat has always been very resilient. He is encouraged by the many new faces and new businesses he has seen come to town in recent years. He sees a bright future for Kitimat because the business community has always promoted supporting each other and because residents are coming to understand the importance of shopping locally.
