Minette Bay Lodge

Accommodations and Tours

Minette Bay Lodge offers a quiet getaway surrounded by 75 acres of rolling green lawn and lush old-growth forest at the entrance to the Douglas Channel, yet is just minutes from Kitimat. The spacious, English-style home features ten well-appointed rooms, each decorated with antiques and filled with old-world charm. Each room is immensely private, with creature comforts that include down-filled bedding, radiant heated floors, and WiFi access. From Minette Bay Lodge, guests can participate in an abundance of diverse outdoor activities ranging from the peaceful to the extremely adventurous. Whether you prefer a serene forest walk on a suspension bridge over a salmon-filled creek or you’d rather be catching fish than watching them after being dropped from a helicopter, Minette Bay Lodge is the ideal starting point. Staff can set you up with all kinds of different experiences and can even have a hot meal or beverage waiting for you when you return. Your stay always includes a large, gourmet, English-style breakfast in the morning. Lunch and dinner can also be included, all prepared by chef Mary Wilson. Minette Bay Lodge is the perfect place to rest your head at night whether you’re in Kitimat for leisure or for business. The lodge can also cater to small to medium-size corporate groups and is ideal for hosting retreats.

Minette Bay Lodge is a member of the Kitimat Chamber of Commerce.

Meet Dr. Howard & Mrs. Ruth Mills

Howard and Ruth Mills were fortunate enough to find a piece of property with a stunning view of Minette Bay. At least, it would be when the land was cleared. They did everything from the ground up, removing just enough of the trees to build their beautiful home and provide a direct sightline to the ocean for their guests. It is in this home that they have entertained people from all over the world. It has been a wonderful way for the couple to fill up their home again after raising five daughters. Howard and Ruth love entertaining and serving their guests and take pride in providing an unforgettable experience with everything from the beautiful rooms to the fine food they serve to the adventures they arrange for visitors. "I like to give my guests the best locally-supported experience," says Ruth.

Though they have lived in Kitimat for more than 30 years, the terrain and the natural setting never ceases to amaze and astound the couple. "No matter where we go, anytime, anywhere, there is always a surprise waiting for us... osprey, kingfishers, eagles, otters, seals... the list is endless, " says Ruth. The two never tire of taking walks outdoors. Ruth is also a hobby photographer, so she often has her camera in tow and enjoys taking photos of all of the things she sees. Kayaking is another favourite activity, especially since they're so close to the water.

Minette Bay Lodge is truly a local effort, something that Howard and Ruth are proud of. All of their staff and their guides are from Kitimat. They all have the same love of and passion for the area and the community, and it comes across in the way that they serve their guests.
